This year, the Guardianship Association of New Jersey, Inc. (GANJI) held its 13th Annual Conference on Guardianship on October 30th at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick, NJ. The conference was entitled “Surrogate Decision-Making: A Holistic Approach.” The Program Schedule is attached here – 13th-annual-conference-on-guardianship-10-31-08. As can be seen, there was a wide variety of topic presentations available for attendees.

Over the years, I have played a small part in GANJI’s steady growth. Many years ago, I achieved my goal of becoming a National Certified Guardian (formerly a Registered Guardian) through the study program offered by GANJI. I have spoken at GANJI conferences in prior years, and last year I was co-chair of the annual conference. This year, I presented a paper at the annual conference and chaired a session with Gwen Orlowski, Esq., who is a Division Director of the Department of the Public Advocate in Trenton, NJ. Our topic was the “Protection of Legal Rights: Access to Housing, Benefits and Employment”. My portion of the presentation covered legal protections available to residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities and continuing care retirement communities.

The paper I presented to the attendees of my session is attached here – conference-presentation-10-31-08. My PowerPoint presentation is attached here – asset-protection-10-31-08.
