Westfield, New Jersey – Donald D. Vanarelli, Esq., a board-certified elder law attorney with offices in Westfield, is proud to announce that he has recently been certified as a National Certified Guardian by the National Guardianship Association (NGA).

As a National Certified Guardian, Mr. Vanarelli has been recognized as possessing the requisite level of knowledge, skill, experience and understanding of ethical principles and standards of good practice to act as a professional guardian. National Certified Guardians serve as private fiduciaries by practicing as guardians of the person or estate of persons rendered incapacitated through age or disability. Mr. Vanarelli joins the more than 650 guardians in the public and private sectors, and in for-profit and not-for-profit agencies and organizations, as well as concerned individuals.

To be certified as a National Certified Guardian, a person must have had a college education or training in a field related to guardianship; must show substantial involvement in guardianship issues through relevant wok experience; must be properly bonded in accordance with the state law; must participate in continuing education and guardianship training; and, must successfully pass a written examination. National Certified Guardians must gain re-certification every two years.

In addition to having been certified as a National Certified Guardian by the Center for Guardianship Certification, Mr. Vanarelli has also been certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation. Elder Law is the legal practice of representing older or disabled persons and their representatives in financing long-term medical care, nursing home issues, qualifying for Medicare, Medicaid and other public benefits, estate planning, trust administration and probate, retirement benefit disputes and guardianships.

Mr. Vanarelli is founder and Committee Chairman of the Elder Law Committee of the Somerset County Bar Association and is the former Secretary of the New Jersey Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
