As readers of this blog may know, representing veterans in connection with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) claims is an emerging practice area that is becoming an increasingly important component of an elder law practice. Lawyers at my firm have been retained with increasing frequency in recent years to represent veterans in claims for both service-connected compensation benefits and needs-based VA pension benefits. I’ve heard similar stories from colleagues at other firms. Recently, a short article I wrote about the emerging VA practice area was published in the November 2011 edition of the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Section newsletter. I hope the article helps readers understand the VA claims process a little better, and how filing claims for VA benefits are becoming  common practice for elder law attorneys, in New Jersey and other states. My article is attached here: The Intersection of VA Benefits Law and Elder Law.
